Beloved Atlanta Falcons mascot “Freddie Falcon” set a new Guinness World Record by performing a breathtaking stunt during Sunday’s Week 1 home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
To fire up the Atlanta Falcons’ crowd before the season opener, Freddie Falcon pulled off an incredible (and terrifying, for those afraid of heights) stunt by swinging down from the stadium’s catwalk.
According to the Falcons, it’s also the new Guinness World Record for the highest indoor rope swing drop at 143 feet. Check out the jaw-dropping stunt that the camera tracking Freddie beautifully captured:

Otherwise, it was a rather dull home opener for the Falcons. Kirk Cousins’ highly-anticipated Atlanta debut left a lot to be desired, as he completed only 16 of 26 pass attempts for 155 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions with two sacks.

The visiting Steelers didn’t require a touchdown to upset the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, either. Chris Boswell provided all the scoring with six field goals for the Steelers, who mustered just 270 yards of offense.
Atlanta Falcons’ Week 1 Woes Continue
Incredibly, the Falcons have now gone a woeful 1-6 over their last seven season openers. The only victory in that period came a year ago, when they defeated the Carolina Panthers (who finished with a league-worst 2-15 record) by 14 points at home.
The Falcons knew they were in tough against a stingy Pittsburgh defense, but 10 points is awfully low for a team that handed Kirk Cousins $180 million to address their QB woes. At any rate, the team has to shift gears now and turn their focus over to the Philadelphia Eagles for Week 2.
