It’s very difficult to be married to someone who is envious, Ripa said on the inaugural episode of her SiriusXM podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ 26-year marriage has had its ups and downs, including a few challenges that the couple overcame.
The pair discussed their love and how they overcome some difficult times by talking things out in the first edition of Kelly Ripa’s new Sirius XM podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, which debuted on Wednesday.
51-year-old Consuelos asserted, “It always gets better.” Nothing is impossible if you speak things through and communicate.
Consuelos’ jealousy was the source of their arguments in the past, according to 52-year-old Ripa, who stressed that this did not suggest that they were unconscious of the challenging times.
My main problem with you during our marriage has been that you used to be envious. This is nothing new, but it changed, and I’m not sure if it was a combination of changes on my part and on yours. It was hard to get that tablet down. Being married to an envious person is difficult. It is not attractive.
Consuelos frequently had “an inaccurate sense of a scenario,” she added, which made him envy. She remembered how, soon after the couple from All My Children secretly wed in 1996, a server at a Boston restaurant fondly addressed her as a “princess” in Italian.
The older waiter had a great personality. He was at least in his 70s, if not his 80s, according to Ripa. I smiled at the idea that this old man called me a princess. I smiled and handed him my order while looking at him. He departed after you made the decision to fight me severely.
Consuelos, who will succeed Ryan Seacrest as co-host on Live next month, verified the assertion by telling Ripa, “I was upset.”
Well, I was completely mad at the age of 25. But I did hold that resentment for a while, he said. I’m no longer envious… It’s a weakness of mine. It’s repulsive. Furthermore, it is much worse on the inside than what the other person sees. You are conscious of your insane condition if that helps. The person who is jealous understands it’s wrong and horrible, but they still can’t stop themselves.
Asking “what changed,” Consuelos answered that it was about personal growth. I wanted to improve myself,” he remarked. As it was impeding my development, I needed to deal with that.
Other things that Ripa needed to work on included her horrible habit of hanging up the phone during confrontations.
Consuelos stated, “Sometimes it’s quite worrisome if the person is like, say, in Vancouver, and you don’t pick up the phone in a day. When you’re angry on the phone, you hang up, which is something you haven’t done in a very long time.
“That’s terrible. Ripa had previously claimed that she and Consuelos periodically needed to communicate more effectively because they were “bad arguers.” In her podcast, she said, “It’s awful. I suppose that was a product of my upbringing. My family is renowned for being a bunch of hangers-on.
There are ups and downs for everyone, as Ripa recognized. It never happens to be flat or even by accident. I made the analogy between it and the heartbeat, stating that if it stops, the individual is unquestionably dead.
The couple, who has three children together—son Michael, 25, daughter Lola, 21, and son Joaquin, 20—also sees a marriage counselor, especially now that they have empty nesters.
“I’m a lifer; I want to be married for the rest of my life,” stated Consuelos. Yet once the distraction is passed, I fear that you’ll be left alone in the house. And I wanted to go to therapy to sort out some of the issues we had been battling for 26 years.
Consuelos asserts that seeking counseling has helped them overcome their harmful habits.
He asserted that one of the best benefits of marriage counseling is that it causes you to reevaluate your previous routines and behaviors, “especially when things are good and you want them to get better.” I would be held accountable to someone in a week or five days, and that person would ask me, “You want to explain that?” he said.
Let’s Chat Off Camera with Kelly Ripa is produced by Consuelos and Ripa’s Milojo Productions in association with SiriusXM. Matthew McConaughey, Andy Cohen, Carol Burnett, and Anderson Cooper are a few of the first guests on the program.
