The Minnesota Vikings rookie quarterback appears to have suffered a setback.
According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, McCarthy underwent another procedure on his right knee this week after an increase in his rehab caused some swelling.
It was also reported that JJ McCarthy was given a biologic injection.
Seifert said this new procedure won’t impact his overall recovery as there are no changes to his recovery timetable.

The former Michigan star quarterback and first-round NFL draft pick was already slated to miss the season, so there will be no loss this year.
In the meantime, the Vikings will continue to entrust the offense to QB Sam Darnold.

JJ McCarthy Should Be Perfectly Fine For The 2025 Season
Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy has had a second surgery on his injured right knee.
It was a report that had the Vikings fan base frightened.
McCarthy, whom the Vikings selected with the No. 10 pick in April’s NFL draft, initially had surgery in August to repair the meniscus in his right knee.
The procedure sidelined him for the entirety of his rookie season, and the new procedure will not add to his recovery timeline.
The second surgery was to address the swelling in his knee.
His initial prognosis placed him on track to be ready for the 2025 season.
