Shocking New Report Blames Ja’Marr Chase’s Holdout With The Bengals On Another Superstar NFL Wide Receiver

If the Cincinnati Bengals want to get an extension done with Ja’Marr Chase before the start of the season, all they have to do is look at a top wide receiver’s deal and make it better than that.

According to NFL Media, Chase wants a new deal that will make him the highest-paid receiver in NFL history.

The Bengals wide receiver is looking for a new contract that would surpass his former LSU teammate, Justin Jefferson, by one cent, according to a report by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“My understanding is that the two sides are still discussing a long-term extension, that, if he got it, would make him either: Tied for the highest-paid receiver with Justin Jefferson, or beating Justin Jefferson by one cent, which I believe is the goal by Ja’Marr Chase,” Rapoport said this week.

In June, Justin Jefferson agreed to a four-year, $140 million contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings, including $110 million in guaranteed money.

Frustration Grows Between Ja’Marr Chase And The Bengals Following The Superstar WR’s Latest Controversial Decision

If Ian Rapoport’s prediction is true, the Bengals need to announce a four-year extension worth $140,000,000.01 to get the job done.

Ja’Marr Chase has been a hold-in since training camp opened. He’s seeking a new deal despite having two years remaining on his current contract.

Without a new deal, the 24-year-old is slated to earn $1.055 million in base salary this year and a fifth-year option that would pay $21.82 million.

Doing a deal now with Ja’Marr Chase could benefit the Bengals, as they would be able to spread out his cap hits over six seasons.

Ja’Marr Chase is seeking a contract extension from the Cincinnati Bengals and he has been refusing to participate in anything until he gets his deal.

Chase wants to see his pay increase and will continue not to practice while pursuing the new deal.

The dynamic wideout had returned to the practice field earlier this week before head coach Zac Taylor indicated he was confident that Chase would play Week 1 against the Patriots.

However, Ja’Marr Chase decided to show up late and not take part in practice on Wednesday or Thursday.
